Jim Morrell (State OHA Field
Administrator) report out:
HB2971 (the cougar agent bill) was signed into law by the governor on June
27.
Discussed methods he has and suggestions on how to raise funds for/with the
banquet.
"Mystery box" idea: Nice box of some value containing nicer gifts
(shirts, hats, a knife, $300 cash). Must be done during live auction.
MC pulls out something (e.g. a $50 bill) to boost bids.
"Grab bags": Sell for $20 tickets.
"Pick of the litter/herd": Pre-sell for tickets of $50. Limit
the number.
"Safe": Maybe not a great idea? Suggest only one big raffle item
for 100 people.
(Hoping for 200 people this year. About 179 came last year.)
Brian L. King offered to be Master of Ceremonies (MC) at the banquet if
nobody else wanted to. That means he's it. I was promised that I
could wear my blaze orange shirt.
"Key items": 5 keys. In live auction and silent. Low value
items. Use visual keys (e.g. around neck). Use regular padlock
and make 5 real keys, 4 of which do not work. Prize should be a fine item,
like a rifle.
May be an issue with flier related to price of Les Schwab package.
***MC needs to announce typos (misfires) at the very beginning of event.
Bushnell bought Michael's of Oregon. Known as "Bushnell's Accessories"
We (OHA) helped them get to where they are....
Herman
Biederbeck (ODFW Biologist)
report out:
Tillamook county goose hunting proposal: mid December - early March.
Late goose hunting in Tillamook County has been closed for years.
Working through the process....
Waterfowl hunting closure proposal. Area is on either side of
state-owned waterway [specific location not captured]. Biologist
contact is Scott Stonem (sp?).
Black Tail deer planning process still in progress. High level OHA
members involved.
Bear carcass discovery at Jewell Meadows: Statute 498012 allows
landowners to manage wildlife-caused damage. ODFW coordinates w/
owners. Meat goes to charity. Landowners pay the contractors.
ODFW overseas and makes sure it's legal.
Story made it to CNN.
State law allows this practice, therefore ODFW is obligated to facilitate.
Bob Gillman is the contractor that does this.
State law allows traps or hounds for damage control hunts (but not for sport).
ODFW director (Virgil) resigned. Commission to meet this Friday and
will appoint interim director.
$600,000 raised by A&H auction tags.
Take rate on bear baits was about 17% overall.
Take was better down south where pressure is less.
Other discussion:
President Dave announces that elections will be held in October for a
new President and Treasurer.
Vice President Marty confirmed he is in it for a one year term (from his
election last month).

Has David replied to the email we received?
Yes.
Whoa, the spam! I'll try to get in there and muck it out weekly or so.
Hand off donations & receipt book.
Done.
How do we publish sponsors? Can I get a list of the others to put on the
web page?
List above.
Web hit update: No good count this month because the logging mechanism
broke. We appear to be getting more interested human traffic.
Logging issue now fixed.
