Topic: ODFW report by
Herman Biederbeck
New Tyvek license holders. Explained and
handed out.
New
tags were designed to resolve issues w/ old tags being manipulated by
forgers/crooks.
Gray Wolf (collar B300) in
NE Oregon. Anticipated. Monitoring.
Moose. Expecting a resident
population to return.
Winter feeding of elk. In other states, political pressure forces feeding. In Oregon, methodology is to use winter
feeding to protect private land. This
winter is looking good. Emergency
feeding should not be necessary.
New cougar and bear agent rules. New law is a
clarification that ODFW can appoint volunteer hunters
as agents. Passed last
month as OARs (Administrative Rules).
Member: Why don’t we have special damage control hunts
for bears?
Current
snare methodology is working well.
Adding hunters to the mix will complicate matters – create conflicts
(and liability).
Hunting
opportunities are set up in areas where snare work is not being done.
Member: Identified an area where bear damage is
rampant. Suggested this would be a good
place for a hunt.
Elk inventory complete.
Saddle
Mt.: 993 elk. 14/100 bull/cow ratio. 37/100 calf/cow ratio.
Wilson: 503 elk. 17/100 bull/cow ratio. 34/100 calf/cow
ratio.
Trask: 906 elk. 10/100 bull/cow ratio. 35/100 calf/cow
ratio.
Wilson:
1st hunt is any bull, 2nd is spike only. 10/100 bulls/cow target.
2400 elk for all 3 units.
Done: Get elk count
data from Herman.
Topic: Treasurers report
$13700 something in the bank.
Proposal (by Wendell): Host 2009 (May 16) at Grande Ronde. Hosting
chapter will make $16k-$20k
(20% of the net).
No
conflict w/ Lincoln Co. chapter. They
are doing this year’s at Chinook Winds.
Motion
approved.
Topic: Who’s going to this year’s state convention?
Got
a few….
Volunteer’s
can attend our hosted state convention next year for free (w/ meal).
Topic: County Fair
No
interest.
Topic: How much made on last year’s raffles?
$15K 2 years ago (2006)?
Doesn’t sound right.
Don’t
need permit if grossing less than $10k. (But must still follow the
rules.)
$14k last year.
Better
renew!
Raffle
laws are complicated – hard to meet.
NRA
will be pulling together a meeting with sportsman’s groups to meet with DoJ on how rules can be reasonably/practically met.
